Two of the big three were present at The Lords Trade Show, in the form of Masuri and Ayrtek.
Masuri offered by far the most interesting development in the helmet world, revealing they will be releasing an entry level Masuri helmet called the “Club”, a mid-range lid called “Test” and their current offering will become the top of the range “Elite”.
The “Elite” features the new grill which gives cricketers greater protection of the chin area without restricting movement, the new grill weighs 186g in its titanium form or 323g in steel. In a further effort to improve safety the new grill has a curved profile, a first in the cricket helmet world, to fully protect the ear. The helmet includes a rigid composite inner and outer shell which sandwiches a polyurethane foam filled cavity providing an unrivalled protection to wall thickness ratio.
The “Test” helmet top section is largely the same as the “Elite” however the “Test” features the old 2012 Masuri grill and only comes in a high grade stainless steel option. As with recent offerings the inner padding is fully removable and adjustable.
Masuri’s entry level offering is the “Club” designed with the traditional Masuri styling but at a much lower price point. This lid features a 4 panel polyester covering as opposed to the 6 panel offerings on the “Elite” and “Test”. Masuri claim to have developed a truly market leading club entry level helmet, it is priced to suit the club cricketer and is avaliable in both Senior and Junior sizes. The Club is only available in a lower grade powder coated option.
Masuri’s 2013 range will certainly please the retailers however there were whispers of a top secret helmet coming from Masuri in 2014 with one of the reps telling us – “There won’t be anything like it here next year”… we can’t wait.
